Why I shoot Lights at night

Why I shoot Lights at night

A mini doc, though perhaps unusually told. It’s about my recent trip to Norway, some of the same footage as my previous video but this one explains a little about why I go away once a year to film something tricky.

Thanks to Kessler for making the Pocket Dolly, electraDRIVE motor and Oracle controller for the timelapse dolly shots. Canon for making the 5D mark 3, great for landscape low light work. Panasonic for making the GH2 with it’s lovely video quality in such a small camera and for being discrete enough to photograph out the plane window really easily. Final thanks to Tom Lowe at Dreamcore for Timescapes which inspired me to get out there and get some good timelapses.

I stumbled upon this awesome service a couple of months ago and I was really impressed about it. Unfortunately my graphic card (GT8800) was not powerful enough to realize my idea. I tested a lot of screen recorders, but all of them throttled the fps of the footages and the results were always too jerky at 720p…:(
Meanwhile I had to upgrade my card (for another reason) (HD5770) and I tested it again – and it worked much better! 🙂

Just to clear it up at 1:30 into the film, that shot is a moon rise, not a sun rise as some people have asked.
Photographed over the course of three weeks in Johannisholm, Sweden. Dec 2012 – Jan 2013
With the sun setting around 3-4 pm each evening, this gave alot of opportunities to shoot at night.
Most of the time it would be waiting for just the right weather conditions, to capture the moon rise, and the Aurora.

Shot with the Canon 5D Mark 3, 60D and 550D. 100% RAW

Lanzarote, the Wind’s Daughter

Lanzarote, the Wind’s Daughter

Last month my wife and I went trekking at Lanzarote,Canarias.
For 9 days walking and (above all) climbing was our credo…
We eventually fell in love with this tiny little volanic island where every growing is a fight!
Against the sun, drought and macho winds, all seem so fragile.

Shot with Sony nex vg-10(completly dusty now),as-15 action-cam and 7D.
Music is the famous Crimson song revisited by Waldeck.

Many thanks to Akaoka and La Casa Blanca!
