That was Paris

That was Paris

I’ve recently moved back to Paris and have been able to rediscover this city. Paris is often represented by monuments, but videos didn’t seem to show the atmosphere, the people.
As a city, the pace is varied which I tried to highlight with timelapse and slow motion. It’s a series of moments captured to show what Paris is to me. It’s a moment in time.

Shot with a canon 7D and 17-55mm lens.

A visual pilgrimage through ancient cultures and natural wonders filmed during my travels over the past few years around the world.

So, we’ll go no more a roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.

For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And love itself have rest.

Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we’ll go no more a roving
By the light of the moon.

Horizons

Horizons

If you have ever been in a wide open landscape the most interesting thing isn’t necessarily the landscape itself, but what you see coming over the horizon. Growing up in South Dakota the landscape itself can be beautiful at times, but that doesn’t compare to what the sky can do, especially at night. Combine that with the landscape, and it makes for great photo opportunities. More information and stills at dakotalapse.com/2013/06/horizons/

Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Defiance, Battlestar Galactica, etc) once again helped me with some original music for the video. This time he suggested adding vocals to the mix. Brendan McCreary and his band (Young Beautiful in a Hurry) did just that. They came up with “I Forever” The single is available on iTunes tinyurl.com/pgrq45p , Amazon and other online sources.

I shot Horizons from April – October 2012 mostly in South Dakota, but also some at Devils Tower in Wyoming. From the rugged Badlands, the White River valley and the Black Hills, the horizons seem to endlessly change.

The Roar Of Paris

The Roar Of Paris

Filmed 6 months of footage from January to June 2013, I lived South of Paris but visited almost every weekend. I had hours of footage that I edited down to just 8 minutes and tried to create a sort of timeless version of Paris.

Hoi An – Ancient Town

Hoi An – Ancient Town

Each morning the dawn calm of Hoi An, Vietnam, disappears in a frenzy of activity. Whether it’s conical hatted ladies conducting million-dong-deals or school girls in their perfect white Ao Dai uniforms commuting four-to-a-bicycle, Hoi An is a place full of life… That is, until about 9pm each day when the bustling streets empty and calm returns.

Hoi An has effectively been preserved in time from it’s days as one of South East Asia’s busiest trading ports. I was privileged to call Hoi An my home for just over a year. As a visitor I will only ever understood a fraction of the activity that keeps the streets and waterways alive. I wanted to capture and share some of the sights that inspired me during my time in this historic town.

This is Shanghai

This is Shanghai

In 1980 Shanghai had no skyscrapers. It now has at least 4,000 — more than twice as many as New York. ‘This is Shanghai’ explores the diversities and eccentricities of the metropolis that is Shanghai going beyond the famous skyline.

Photographer Rob Whitworth and urban identity expert JT Singh joined forces combining deep city exploration and pioneering filmmaking. ‘This is Shanghai’ is a roller coaster ride seamlessly weaving between the iconic, sparkling and mismatched buildings of the financial district travelling by boat and taxi touring Shanghai’s impressive infrastructure whilst glimpsing some of the lesser-known aspects of Shanghai life such as the lower stratum areas or the stunning graffiti of Moganshan road. And of course there is the opportunity to try some of the vast variety of street food and Shanghai’s most popular homegrown delicacy, the pan-fried pork dumplings, the shengjian bao.

Wherever you travel in Shanghai the cities skyline is always present. The looming silhouette of the almost constructed Shanghai Tower now dominates and perfectly encapsulates the new heights this city is yet to reach. Once completed, in 2014, it will be the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

To understand the city, the team carried out rigorous urban exploration. In the words of JT “we walked, walked and walked, the Jane Jacobs way”. Weibo, China’s main social media platform was used to ask local Shanghainese people to share ideas of different vantage points and what they thought were the over-riding characteristics of the city. Stealth and curiosity were required to find and gain access to rooftops and locations. It became addictive for the team discovering breath-taking vantage points of the city. There was always an adrenaline rush upon reaching the top of a different building to see the vast urban jungle of Shanghai.

Rob Whitworth (robwhitworth.co.uk/) is a creative time lapse photographer from the UK based in Asia. His previous videos, ‘Traffic in Frenetic HCMC’ and ‘Kuala Lumpur DAY-NIGHT’ have received international attention including being short listed for 7 film festivals, and have had received well over 2 million online views.

JT Singh (jtsingh.com/) has explored hundreds of emerging cities around the world and is a next generation thinker about the value and impact of 21st century cities. Having grown up in Toronto JT is now based in China. He explains:

“The over-riding reason we made this video was to creatively show the world visually how China is rising, in particular Chinese cities. Just as New York City exemplified the strengths and ambitions of emerging America in the 20th century, Shanghai, perhaps more than any old or emerging rival, will personify the power and dreams of rising Asia in the 21st century.”

Backpackers – chapter I: VIETNAM

Backpackers – chapter I: VIETNAM

BACKPACKERS:
2 boys. 3 countries. 23 days.

Chapter I: VIETNAM

Here’s the first chapter of our Asian adventure.
We spent six days in vietnam.
Arrived in Ho Chi Minh City we stopped few days then we went down to Can Tho in the Mekong Delta, stopping first at Cu Chi. Last step was Chau Doc, where we boarded for Cambodia.
What impressed me the most of Vietnam were friendliness and smiles and smiles of Vietnamese, as well as beautiful landscapes that leave you speechless. I literally fell in love with this country.
