Χρόνος / Chronos (Time): An essential factor in the process of maturing and decay of all things.

Κρόνος / Kronos (Cronus): The leader and the youngest of the first generation of Titans. Associated with harvesting and human progress. Had the lousy habit of devouring his children.

Κραίνω / Kreno : to perfect oneself.

Crete Balos Beach

Crete Balos Beach

Oh yes… Balos beach.
This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Thank god I had my gear with me. I got the Sony Nex FS700 just 1 day before we departed for Crete. I only had the camera and a mini tripod. There for I was limited with camera movements but when you have a such beautiful place infront of your lens it shouldn’t be a problem no mather what. The rest of the gear that I ordered was still on its way so I grabed what I had and left.

The beach is located on a remote location. You need at least a Jeep to get near it and then it takes 45min by foot to get to it. The most amazing part of the experiance is the view because the first time you see the beach is from the top. You walk 20min through a rocky path (or take the Donky Taxi for 5eur 🙂 ) and then suddenly the view opens infront of you with the beach in all its glory. I was so determined to document this place that once I was already at the bottom and I realized that I have forgotten my battery charger in the car I went up the path again to get it. The path itself is hard to a point that some people only walk to the view from the top to see it. Trust me… It’s worth the walk! 😉

The aim of the IOAA is to introduce high school students to the marvels of the Cosmos and promote their knowledge in the area of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
By participating in such international events, they have the opportunity to meet students with the same interests from all over the world. It is the first time that Greece hosts an International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, it is the first time that an astronomical-astrophysical Olympiad is organized by one of the old European Union countries and, of course, it is the first time that such an important scientific and cultural event will take place in the Prefecture of Thessaly and especially in Volos, the homeland of Centaurus Chiron, the teacher of Hercules and Achilles. The involved institutions (Ministry of Education, Prefecture of Thessaly, Municipality of Volos, University of Thessaly, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Society of Astronomy and Space in Volos) cordially welcome you.
We are looking forward to offer you our hospitality in Greece, the land that gave birth to the science of Astronomy, while the forefathers of Astronomy (Thales, Pythagoras, Democritus, Eudoxus, Heraclides, Aristarchus, Eratosthenes, Hipparchus, Ptolemy, Hypatia and others) cultivated, advanced and spread the beauty and mysteries of the science of Astronomy up to the far reaches of the then known world.

A Piece of Greece

A Piece of Greece

Costas Golemis (Media offline) and Fotis Traganoudakis (Public eye Studio), joined forces and the result is an excellent video with timelapse technology. Advancing the art of photography and knowing very well the art of editing and animation, they took a step forward, giving through their work an answer to those who claim that there is no hope for Greece. It took hours and thousands of photo frames, special equipment designed by the two of them and very careful and quality editing to create the final result. In difficult times for Greece, they are daring, and they are justified.
