The Longest Way 1.0 – walk through China and grow a beard! – TIMELAPSE

In 2008, I walked through China – one year, more than 4500km. All the while, I let my hair and my beard grow. This is the resulting video.

Additional info:
– I never finished my original goal of walking to Germany. Instead, I walked for a year and roughly 4500km, passed the Gobi desert, and then decided to stop walking for now.
– All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi was completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.
– I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.
– Obtaining the necessary visa for a trip like this was not very easy, hence I had to go back to Beijing a few times to resolve some issues.
– This is not a strict “1 pic a day” video, because I wanted to make it a bit more alive by adding some additional movement. Sometimes during the film you would follow me turn around, or something would happen in the background. I tried to capture these moments to make the video more interesting.

– The core of this project is in actually my blog where I have posted my extensive travel diary, starting from day 1 (Nov 9th 2007) and describing every single day until the end one year later.

Here is my first video project.

It is a timelapse video of the the mountainscape in Allgäu/ Bavaria/ Germany.
All sequences are shot in the area around the town Bad Hindelang.

The exact shooting locations were Hinterstein, Bad Hindelang, Oberjoch, Sonthofen, Burgberg, Oberstdorf, Hüttenberg and Gunzesried.

I have spent over 12 months collecting footage for this, I have shot approx. 20,000 stills before choosing 10,000 of them for this video.

Personally it is my goal to show you the beauty of the mountains on all the different daytimes and seasons.
They are always nice, even if the weather is bad.
One of my focus points is for sure the photography of the night sky, which fascinates me the most.

I have spent a lot of time in the nature taking these pictures, however the most work had to be done at home with post processing. And although you always feel like there is something you could have improved, even small details, before releasing, you come to a point when you just have to finish. And this time is now.

I want to thank my friends and family for supporting me.

The resolution of the video in Vimeo is 1280 x 720.
It is also available in 1920×1080 (and even 4k for some shots). Contact me for higher resolution.
Video may not be used commercially or public without permission.

Hope you like the video, more info about me:

I am a 20 year old photographer based in Hinterstein/ Germany. I started in January 2011 and want to improve myself continuously.

Canon EOS 550D
Magic Lantern 2.3 (really great software which I fully recommend!)

Tokina AF 11-16mm/2.8
Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 II

This is a tribute to this beautiful region of Portugal, Alto Douro (whc.unesco.org/en/list/1046) , where the famous Port wine originates from its vineyards.

It’s a 100% timelapse movie using both stills (Canon Powershot G12) and video (Canon 5DMk2) scenes.
Motion is from the Systems4you’s MTL Omega motorized dolly (systems4you.net).
